Moscow, Oct 11 (Prensa Latina) President Vladimir Putin stressed that the observer status in the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Russia received has opened new opportunities for interaction to ensure security and sustainable development in the world.
The organization has played a 'very important' role in the discussion and solution of the most diverse international affairs, Putin noted at a message of congratulation to participants of the ministerial summit on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Movement, taking place in Belgrade.

The NAM 'consistently upholds the principles of unconditional equality of all States, respect for their sovereignty and legitimate interests, and supports a constructive multilateral dialogue in strict compliance with the spirit and letter of the United Nations Charter,' Putin stressed.

According to the head of State, its potential is necessary, especially at this time, when 'the world situation is increasingly turbulent and humanity confronts a growing number of threats and challenges,' stated the communique released by the Kremlin website.

He also highlighted NAM's contribution to collective efforts 'to build a more democratic and stable world order and to strengthen trust and mutual understanding among members of the international community.'

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic opened the NAM ministerial meeting in Belgrade on Monday, in which delegations from 114 countries, included some 40 foreign ministers, among them Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, are participating.
