Puebla Group’s 9th Meeting begins in Mexico

Some 160 members of the Puebla Group, including several former presidents from Latin America and Spain, are attending the opening session of their 9th Meeting in the Mexican city where this political and academic forum was initiated in 2019.
The sessions will last until October 1, and are based on the motto “In unity we move forward,” organizers said.
They confirmed the participation of the former presidents of Colombia, Ernesto Samperl Panama, Martin Torrijos; Bolivia, Evo Morales; Ecuador, Rafael Correa; and Spain, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.
Puebla Group Coordinator Marco Enríquez-Ominami said that among those who confirmed participation are the hosts of the event: Mexican Foreign Secretary Alicia Bárcena, Presidential Candidate Claudia Sheinbaum, and Puebla Governor Sergio Salomón Céspedes.
On this occasion, the work of the 9th Meeting will deal with the progressive international policy agenda and several proposals for which they will work to consolidate the region’s unity.
Among these proposals are the creation of a common currency, new multilateralism, the convergence of its sub-regional integration organizations, the new solidarity model of development, the energy transition and the continent’s insertion into the Global South through forums such as the BRICS.
Participants will also proposed an end to the war in Ukraine within the debates on the ways to make peace.
