President Luis Arce Highlights the Importance of ALBA-TCP on its 20th Anniversary

The Bolivian president recalled the emblematic meeting between historical leaders Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro, noting that this symbolic embrace not only marked a milestone in history but also represented the defeat of the hegemonic FTAA project (Free Trade Area of the Americas).

In the framework of the XXIV Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – Treaty on Commerce of the Peoples (ALBA-TCP), the President of Bolivia, Luis Arce, delivered an emotional speech that underlined the relevance of ALBA in the current context, marked by the threat of fascism and neo-fascism.

Arce stated that this anniversary is not only a time to celebrate the past but also an opportunity to look ahead. “Faced with the challenges of a world threatened by fascism and neo-fascism, ALBA is not an option; ALBA is a necessity that must continue with a firm step,” he said, emphasizing the importance of reaffirming the bloc’s founding principles: solidarity, justice, and cooperation.

“ALBA was born, which put human beings at its center and promoted the possibility of a better world,” he said. Arce reaffirmed Bolivia’s commitment to ALBA-TCP as an instrument of resistance that raises its voice against injustice.

In particular, he condemned the blockade imposed on Cuba and the unilateral measures affecting Venezuela and Nicaragua, stressing that these actions have a direct impact on the well-being of peoples.

“ALBA is also a strong voice against the unjust and criminal blockade against Cuba,” he said. With his speech, Luis Arce not only celebrated two decades of the alliance but also made a call for unity and collective action among ALBA-TCP member countries.
