Mexico City, Dec 7 (Prensa Latina) Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on Wednesday called for respect for human rights in Peru following President Pedro Castillo´s dismissal.

In a message posted on Twitter, divided into three tweets, López Obrador recalled that “non-intervention and self-determination of peoples is a pivotal principle of our foreign policy. That is what we adhere to in the case Peru”.

“However, we consider it as regrettable that due to the interests of the economic elites and since the beginning of the legitimate presidency of Pedro Castillo, an atmosphere of confrontation and hostility has been kept against him”, the Mexican leader added.

“Hopefully human rights will be respected and there will be democratic stability for the benefit of the people”, López Obrador said.

On Nov. 13, López Obrador traveled to Lima to attend the Pacific Alliance Summit to meet with his counterparts Gabriel Boric (Chile), Gustavo Petro (Colombia) and Guillermo Lasso (Ecuador) in order to hand over to Castillo the pro tempore presidency.
