The President of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, returns to the United States for personal matters until April 22, according to Executive Decree 606.
This Thursday’s transfer coincides with the Easter holiday in the South American country.
Shortly before last Sunday’s elections, Noboa ordered the suspension of the working day on April 17 for the public and private sectors, a measure that for some was considered populist.
This new trip of the president to the northern country, where he is originally from, takes place weeks after his controversial meeting with US President Donald Trump, a meeting about which not many details were revealed.
On the other hand, the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, informed that the day before he spoke by telephone with Noboa and discussed issues such as the fight against drug trafficking.
Since the beginning of 2024, Ecuador has been under an “internal armed conflict” decreed by Noboa himself to confront organized crime and counteract the escalation of violence that persists, despite the militarization measures.
In this context, the president expects for US support within the framework of the agreements already signed between Quito and Washington.
