The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, returned to the homeland on Wednesday night after participating in the IX Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), held in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. The information was released by the Presidency on its social media account X.

The source indicates that the dignitary was received by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz; the secretary of organization of the PCC Central Committee, Roberto Morales Ojeda; and the secretary of the Council of Ministers, Amado Ricardo. Díaz-Canel spoke today in the high-level segment of the Summit, held in the Honduran capital, with the attendance of delegations from the 33 member countries of this political coordination mechanism.

He pointed the importance of Latin American and Caribbean integration, in the face of the hostile policy promoted by the new Donald Trump administration toward the countries of the region and its disregard for basic principles of international law such as peaceful coexistence and sovereign equality among states.  He also denounced the genocidal economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed on Cuba by the U.S. government more than six decades ago and rejected the reinclusion of the largest island in the Antilles on the spurious list of states that allegedly sponsor terrorism.

The Cuban president emphasized the importance of Latin American and Caribbean unity in confronting the aggressive US agenda, marked by unilateralism on issues of migration, drug trafficking, trade, climate change, and the attempt to control the countries' relations with other extra-regional partners.
