President Díaz-Canel extols merits of Cuban heroes and heroines

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Wednesday extolled the awarding of honorary titles of Hero of the Republic and Heroines of Labor to his fellow countrypeople.
On his X profile, the head of State noted that athletes Mijaín López and Omara Durand, and former Comptroller General Gladys Bejerano represent the best of the Cuban people, dedication, courage and passion in each of the daily battles.
He described it as an honor to have accompanied Army General Raúl Castro at the ceremony to present these distinctions.
The leader of the Cuban Revolution granted the honorary title of Hero of the Republic of Cuba to five-time Olympic champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, Mijaín López, the Presidency reported on its website on Wednesday.
At the ceremony, also headed by Díaz-Canel, the undisputed queen of the international Paralympic movement for more than a decade, Omara Durand, as well as Gladys Bejerano, who headed the Comptroller General of the Republic for the last 15 years, were distinguished as Heroines of Labor.
