Havana, Jul 13 (Prensa Latina) The president of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel, alerted the authorities of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) about the need to take measures to reinforce the population's perception of risk in the face of Covid-19.

Diaz-Canel wrote on Twitter urging not to be overconfident, even though the figures remain low, compared to the world and what was experienced in the country during the summer of 2021.

During a meeting with experts from the MINSAP, the president learned that countries in Europe and America are experiencing a new wave of SARS-CoV-2 infections, despite the levels of booster vaccination.

He also learned that pediatric vaccination in Cuba has prevented children deaths due to the pandemic.

The doctor of the Pedro Kouri Institute of Tropical Medicine, Maria Eugenia Toledo, principal researcher of the Soberana vaccine, said that after a rigorous study it was possible to determine that the effectiveness of the vaccine in the prevention of symptomatic disease in children between two and five years was 90.1% during the Omicron wave in Cuba.

The dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computing of the University of Havana, Raul Guinovart Diaz, reported that the provinces of Havana, Mayabeque, Matanzas and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud have shown a slight increase in positive cases, especially Havana, where 115 have been reported in the past seven days.

Faced with such behavior, the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero, called during the meeting of the Temporary Group of the Government in the fight with the pandemic to voluntarily opt for the use of sanitary masks due to its effectiveness in the face of the possibility of an increase of positive cases.
