Havana, Jan 19 (Prensa Latina) President Miguel Diaz-Canel expressed his condolences for the death of Cuban renowned filmmaker Juan Carlos Tabio.
'Heart-felt goodbye to Juan Carlos Tabio, one of the essentials of Cuban cinema. His work, an authentic portrait of Cuba, is also the acute memory of an era. Condolences to family, friends and colleagues from cinema,' the president wrote on Twitter.
Juan Carlos Tabio (1943-2021) was a Cuban screenwriter, writer and director, author of renowned film works such as 'Se permuta' (1985), 'Plaff' (1988) and Strawberry and Chocolate (1993), which he co-directed with Tomas Gutierrez Alea, aka 'Titón', with whom he also co-directed 'Guantanamera' (1995).
Tabio also excelled for his films 'Lista de espera' (2000) and 'El cuerno de la abundancia' (2008), which demonstrated his skill and constitute reflections of the identity of the Cuban nation.
In 2014, Tabio was distinguished with the National Film Award.
