President of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is holding a state visit to Chile, where he will witness the establishment of a series of economic commitments, political meetings, and sign at least 15 bilateral agreements on science and technology, defense, human rights, trade relations, and investment.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lula will be received this Monday at the La Moneda Palace, in Santiago de Chile, by his counterpart Gabriel Boric, with whom he will hold a private meeting, followed by an expanded one, sign minutes and issue a joint statement to the press.

After lunch, the president of Brazil will be received by the leaders of the Judicial and Legislative powers of Chile and will speak with representatives of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), and Latam, the largest Chilean company operating in Brazil.

At the end, Lula da Silva will participate in the closure of the Chile-Brazil Business Forum, which is expected to bring together some 500 leaders from public and private sectors to discuss issues related to bilateral trade between the two countries.

A meeting between Lula and the mayor of Santiago, Irací Hassler, and former president Ricardo Lagos, is scheduled for Tuesday.

According to Ambassador Gisela Padovan, secretary for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, da Silva’s visit symbolizes the diplomatic rapprochement between both countries after Boric assumed power in March 2022.

“We seek to expand this bilateral agenda to work on friendship beyond economic and commercial issues: on items such as science and technology, defense of democracy and human rights, education, innovation, and health, Padovan remarked.
