A contingent of 65 power workers from the Cuban western province of Matanzas are traveling to Pinar del Rio on Wednesday to support the recovery of the territory after Hurricane Idalia hit the region.

The contingent, made up of linesmen and specialists from the power sector, traveled to Pinar del Rio, after a flag ceremony in La Libertad central park in the city of Matanzas.

According to Yoan Arencibia, a worker who read the group’s commitment, the task assigned will be very hard, but as Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro said, ‘battles are not won by those who believe that combat is easy. Battles are won by those who know that the combat is difficult, that is why we will win’.

Javier Valles, a young linesman from the Basic Power Organization (OBE) of Colon, said that although the work will be complex, he is ready, as well as his colleagues, to provide power services to the population of the municipality of Mantua, where he will work, in the shortest possible time.

The OBE Brigade Chief in Unión de Reyes, Livan Morales, who has seven previous experiences after hurricanes, explained that the main actions to be taken are aimed at raising fallen poles and putting transmission lines into operation.

We have the idea of staying in Pinar del Río as long as the work demands, we have the task of solving the problem created by Hurricane Idalia after it hit western Cuba, Morales noted.
