Pope Francis represents a lot for humanity, says Sheinbaum

The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, reiterated today her wishes for the recovery of Pope Francis, who remains in a delicate state of health, and defined him as a man who represents a lot for humanity.
 
 
“We send to Pope Francis our wish of a speedy recovery, because he is a man who represents a lot for humanity, even beyond the Catholic religion,” said the president during her usual meeting with journalists.

She said that the supreme pontiff has many texts, among these, two very significant of his thought: an encyclical dedicated to the protection and defense of the planet Earth –which she described as very progressive- and another on what neoliberalism represented.

“When I went to the episcopal meeting during the campaign, I read a text (…) where I quote two parts of that encyclical by Pope Francis, which speaks precisely about consumerism, about how the essence of humanity was lost with that system,” Sheinbaum said.

“So, of course, all those who defend another vision of the church are against it. What is terrible is that they call themselves Christians. You should not wish anyone ill, even if they are your adversary,” said the head of the Executive, referring to comments that have emerged these days among conservatives.

Last Saturday, the head of the Executive wished a speedy recovery to Pope Francis, whom she defined as a great humanist.

“We wish a speedy recovery to Pope Francis, a great humanist who has chosen the poorest and promote fraternity between people and nations,” the president said in a message on her social network X account.

A note released this morning by the Holy See press office specified that the supreme pontiff remains at rest after a quiet night without new respiratory crises.

The Pope’s health is still very delicate -it added- but a slight improvement is seen after the increase in the level of hemoglobin, after the transfusions of two units of red blood cells that were performed on him, while thrombocytopenia, a term related to a low level of platelets, remains stable.
