Vivid emotions and euphoria among sports fans and connoisseurs were triggered by Elisabet Gámez and Andrea Becali, as they won the gold and bronze medals, respectively, in the 200m freestyle at the Central-American and Caribbean Games held in San Salvador.
Gámez, Cuba’s best swimmer in the last decade, won the event with 1:59:52s, while Becali ended third place with 2:00:70s.
María Mata, from Mexico, was the runner up with 1:59:98s, according to official results.
Once again, Gámez showed her strength and performed at her best until the end.
The Baracoa native, 26 years old, was in fourth place after the first 50m, came second at half of the competition, and steadily progressed until she won the event.
Becali competed shortly after in the 100m backstroke, her best event, but ended seventh place with 1:04:97s.
