Cartagena, Spain, Jul 20 (Prensa Latina) She is 91 years old and sings today from a huge wicker armchair, to say goodbye as she has done before, "because as long as someone listens to me, I will continue on stage".

Her name is Omara Portuondo, she is a very inch a Cuban, one of the great exponents of the traditional music of the Caribbean island, who once again thrilled the audience of the La Mar de las Musicas festival in Cartagena, a port city in the autonomous community of Murcia, in southeastern Spain.

The organizers of the event say that the auditorium of the Torres de Cartagena park gave a standing ovation to the Buena Vista Social Club diva, “the bride of feeling”, who sang for an hour and a quarter, and then another 15 minutes for the “encores”.

Paco Martín, director of La Mar de Musicas and of the Cartagena Jazz Festival until 2018, promised to bring Omara to all his projects, so her ties with the city have become indestructible.

Last night, at the artist’s first stop in Spain, where she will complete her presumed farewell in Madrid at “Los Veranos de la Villa” on August 9, she did not fail to captivate her fans, many of them melancholic at the possibility of it being her last performance here.

Eliades Ochoa had already anticipated, with another high-flying performance at the same festival, to leave the stage hot with the smell of the Buena Vista Social Club.

As long as I have a voice and someone wants to hear me, let me sing,” she told the organizers.
