Non-Aligned Movement Demands Respect for Venezuela's Political Independence

The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) has demanded full respect for the sovereignty, political independence, territorial integrity, and right to self-determination of Venezuela, following an act of aggression by the United States government on January 3.
In a statement, the Movement’s Coordinating Bureau condemned the actions of the White House, which included armed attacks against civilian and military targets in the capital, Caracas, and other cities.
The Bureau emphasized that the attacks in question violate the purposes and principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, as well as the norms of international law. They constitute an act of war against the South American nation that undermines regional and international peace, security, and stability, and threatens the right to life of the Venezuelan people.
The declaration also reaffirms the inviolability of the immunities granted to Heads of State and Government under international law, which constitute a fundamental pillar of sovereign equality, peaceful coexistence, and stable international relations.
"These immunities must be respected universally and without discrimination," the text highlights, "and any action or measure that undermines or selectively ignores them risks eroding multilateralism, destabilizing international relations, and weakening the international legal order."
NAM reiterated its solidarity with the people and Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and insisted that military solutions are not viable pathways to address any matter that may be a cause for concern among members of the international community.
