Moscow, Dec 23 (Prensa Latina) Russia hopes that the United States has enough common sense to avoid a direct clash between them, over the conflict in Ukraine, said the Director of the Foreign Ministry for North America, Aleksander Darchiev.
The senior diplomat asserted that Moscow is confident that Washington will not take things to a direct confrontation between Russia and the United States, or else, the rupture of diplomatic relations may become a reality with all the immediate consequences.
By making the decision to isolate Moscow, Washington is now trying to turn things around, as if it wasn’t the current US administration that brought these relations to the point of no return, he stated.
Darchiev stressed that Russia will not move towards breaking relations, but also will not tolerate provocations which leave no options.
The diplomat also referred that in the case of Ukraine, there can´t be serious negotiations as long as the arms supply is ongoing and Western instructors and mercenaries remain in Ukraine and until the realities defined by Russia on the ground are recognized.
Darchiev recalled that a year ago Moscow made “an honest attempt to negotiate, putting on the table two drafts of legally binding documents” on security guarantees with the United States and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, but it was ignored.
Meanwhile, under the protection of the Minsk agreements, they outfitted the Ukrainian army and prepared it to destroy Donbass, and under these conditions Russia cannot trust the United States and the West, he specified.
