Havana, March 4 (RHC)-- Interior Ministry authorities reported on Friday that in 2022, 861 irregular migrants had been returned to Cuba in compliance with agreements signed with countries in the region.

A press release issued by the entity stated that up to the first days of March, 19 operations had been carried out, 11 of which were by the sea with the U.S. Coast Guard, which has returned 345 people who attempted to leave Cuba illegally.

The information added that the other eight operations had taken place by air, with 516 people returned, 473 from Mexico and 43 from the Bahamas.

Cuban authorities have repeatedly stressed the danger involved in these movements in which people travel in life-threatening conditions and are exposed to kidnapping, rape, extortion, and other mishaps.

Cuba has reiterated in various scenarios its commitment to maintaining safe, orderly, and regular migratory flows, including during Covid-19, and denounced the hostile policy of the United States in this regard.
