The governments of the United States and Mexico will continue their talks on migration here according to a telephone conversation between Presidents Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and Joe Biden on Thursday, sources from the two countries reported on Friday.

The decision was made in the course of that conversation and Biden asked Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas and White House Homeland Security Advisor Liz Sherwood Randall to travel to Mexico in the coming days, but without setting a specific date.

The three US officials will meet with President López Obrador and his team to discuss further actions that can be taken together to address current border challenges, they said.

Mexican sources noted that the talks and the trip come as the opposition Republican Party presses Biden’s Democrats to make major changes in immigration policy as a condition for approving an emergency assistance package for Ukraine and Israel.
