The Meliá Cayo Coco hotel in the Jardines del Rey resort, in the north of the Cuban province of Ciego de Ávila, stands out today for its outstanding environmentally friendly tourism management.

Owned by the Gran Caribe hotel group and managed by Meliá Hotels International, the facility has 250 rooms, including 12 suites and 62 built on a natural lagoon, in the style of an aboriginal village that guarantees panoramic views, combined with good service, comfort and beauty.

The deputy director of the center, Niurka Hernández, explained that the Five Star hotel offers service for adult travelers, and from the construction process the environment was respected, which has vegetation with high ecological and landscape values.

Located in Las Coloradas, a beach favored by the dumping of sand and with wooden walkways on stilts so as not to damage the dunes or the natural environment that surrounds them, the hotel achieves the harmony of comfort, thus contributing to the development of sustainable tourism.

He pointed out that they frequently undertake actions to improve ecosystems, preserve vegetation by planting native plants, which also helps protect the dunes, in order to reduce the effects of waves and thus decrease sea penetrations caused by extreme hydrometeorological events.

Based on the Ecofriendly educational project, they promote environmental culture among clients and workers, through informative and educational billboards, to achieve the systematic care of the coasts, in order to develop responsible tourism with nature, commented Hernández.

He emphasized that the Meliá Cayo Coco is distinguished by customer service through highly trained personnel, excellence in services, gastronomy and high quality standards.

With 25 years of operation, the hotel has Canada as its main market, characterized by the flow of tourists that guarantee occupancy throughout the year, with a high rate of repetition, since many clients visit it several times a year.
