Brasilia, Jul 18 (Prensa Latina) Former Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on Monday described South African fighter against Aparheid Nelson Mandela as the symbol of the search for a better world and without racism.

Lula tweeted that Mandela was unjustly arrested, but did not want revenge or give up his cause. He came back and was elected president by the South African people. He united the country for peace and democracy.

He recalled that he would turn 104 years of age today and remains a symbol of the search for a better world and without racism.

In October, 2008, the founder of the Workers’ Party met Mandela in Maputo, capital of Mozambique, who said that he was honored to receive President Lula. At my age (90), I do not meet with presidents anymore, he said.

After that, the then president of Brazil (2003-2011) praised the the former South African president. He said that Mandela was one of the most extraordinary personalities the world has seen.

On Monday, his legacy will be discussed at the UN General Assembly, which will hold an informal meeting to pay tribute to the late former South African president (1918-2013).
