Mexico, Oct 7 (Prensa Latina) Lithium must belong to the Mexican nation, under exclusive public management and without concessions that affect the ownership of this mineral, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reiterated today.

As he was asked about this topic during the morning press conference he remembered that it is being evaluated by the government the possibility to declare lithium as a mineral exclusively under public management.

On the other hand, he warned the opponents not to have any illusions, because if there is an act of treason and it is not approved that lithium be in Mexican hands, any private request for exploitation will be denied.

He said that they will not cease in the attempt to make it clear in the Constitution that this resource is property of the nation.

We are going to review if there are exploration and exploitation works outside the public order, since there is already talk of purchases and they will not be authorized. If this happens, we will go to court to avoid that, he added.

The President quoted old revolutionary precepts from the time of Francisco Madero (1873-1913) to defend Mexico's natural resources, in particular a phrase according to which whoever hands over the country's resources to foreigners is a traitor to the homeland.
