Mexico, Nov 25 (Prensa Latina) Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Friday welcomed his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro, in the Honor Courtyard of the National Palace.
Both heads of State went to the podium where the flags of the two countries are placed and, after fulfilling the greeting ritual, they listened to the national anthems of their respective nations performed by a ceremonial military band, the only formal activity where speeches or other actions are not customary.
After shaking hands in front of the flags for the traditional official photo that shows their friendship and mutual respect, Lopez Obrador invited Petro for a brief tour through the corridors of the Palace to the office where first the presidents, and then the rest of the delegations, meet behind closed doors.
Minutes before, at his regular morning press conference, the Mexican president told journalists that he would discuss several issues of bilateral interest with his guest, but the central issue would be related to the suspended Pacific Summit, a mechanism of integration and socioeconomic cooperation of which Colombia is a member.
Petro is the third president that Lopez Obrador has received this week after Chile’s Gabriel Boric and Ecuador’s Guillermo Lasso.
