Mexico City, Jun 7 (Prensa Latina) There is an electoral process underway to elect Mexican presidential candidates; therefore, those aspiring for the coalition headed by MORENA party will have to resign from their current posts.

This is what President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Wednesday explained in his morning press conference at the National Palace when he was asked about the announcement of Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard’s resignation yesterday.

The head of State argued that as it is common knowledge, Ebrard is one of the five aspirants of the “Juntos Haremos Historia” (Together We’ll Make History) coalition, if Gerardo Noroña, a legislator of the “Partido de Trabajo” (Labor Party) is counted. Since Noroña is a member of the alliance but not of MORENA party; however, there are four aspirants representing MORENA.

Lopez Obrador said that Claudia Sheinbaum, head of the Government of Mexico City; Adan Augusto Lopez, Secretary of the Interior; and Ricardo Monreal, coordinator in the Senate, will have to resign in due time.

The president added that this process has already started; that is why, Ebrard will resign next Monday. Hence, the FM still has time to think about who will be his replacement, and that will occur in all cases.
