The World Health Organization (WHO) had announced since May 5th the beginning of the campaign to promote the World Hand Hygiene Day, which is being celebrated today. But it is probable that there is no need to explain in details the importance of washing our hands.

It is probable that out of all routines followed by human beings on daily basis, washing our hands may well be the one most frequently done since the emergence of Sars-Cov-2 coronavirus.

Nonetheless, even though some restrictive measures have been loosened now in Cuba, but it is important to remember that the most important health and hygiene guidelines have not changed.

It is still essential to wash our hands every time we got home, we carry a baby, after going to the toilet, before food preparation, and so on.

The hydroalcoholic solution small recipient cannot be left behind at home. And we must use it before getting in or out any institution, in the public transportation.

This World Hand Hygiene Day —set in 2009 by the WHO— should be also celebrated as people have become aware of the importance of washing their hands after the pandemic.

And we should never get rid of it and not only due to coronavirus. There are also like an army of microorganisms willing to attack our health and particularly our digestive system and have actually pretty good chances to penetrate our body through our hands.

Even when Covid-19 will someday be just a bad memory, washing our hands is paramount. As WHO itself stated in the theme of the campaign: “Seconds to save Live.”
