Leaders of China and Thailand stress historic friendship

Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra in this capital on Thursday to underscore the close bilateral relations existing after a thousand years of historical ties.
During the meeting, Xi stressed the deep friendship between the two nations and underscored the notion that “China and Thailand are one family.”
“Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 50 years ago, the two nations have joined in mutual respect, equal treatment, sincere mutual trust and assistance, and have always firmly supported each other in safeguarding national sovereignty, security and development interests,” the president said.
The Chinese head of State also recalled that this year marks the 50th anniversary of these diplomatic ties and reiterated his commitment to continue working together to build a community of shared destiny.
He also called to enhance cooperation in key areas such as economic development, connectivity, and strengthen regional security.
Paetongtarn Shinawatra, in turn, expressed satisfaction to visit Beijing on the framework of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and reiterated his country’s strong support for the one-China policy.
The Thai prime minister also emphasized the interest in strengthening exchanges in trade, agriculture, cultural cooperation, and the fight against transnational crime.
Xi and Shinawatra agreed on the importance of a world order based on international law and cooperation in addressing global challenges.
