Cuba’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex) announced today the departure of Cuban citizen José Daniel Ferrer García and members of his family to the United States.

According to a statement published on Minrex’s official website, the departure—carried out on Monday—took place following a formal request from the U.S. government and Ferrer García’s explicit consent, within the framework of the legal procedures and agreements in force between both countries.

The ministry added that the Cuban State “reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the rule of law, the protection of the rights of all individuals, the defense of our sovereignty against discredit campaigns, and the preservation of peace and constitutional order.”

Given its significance, the Cuban News Agency (ACN) has released the full statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs below.

Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Cuban citizen José Daniel Ferrer García, along with members of his family, has left the national territory as of October 13, 2025.

The departure to the United States follows a formal request from the U.S. government and Ferrer García’s express acceptance, in accordance with the established legal procedures and enforcement mechanisms between both countries.

This process was based on a thorough evaluation by the Office of the Attorney General regarding Ferrer García’s legal status; the observance of due process; consideration of the specific circumstances of the case; and the exercise of legal powers granted to state institutions.

In January 2025, Ferrer García was granted an early release from a four-year, six-month prison sentence. However, due to repeated violations of the obligations and requirements set forth by the court under the Law on Penal Enforcement and its regulations, the benefit was revoked in April of this year.

Ferrer García had remained under a provisional detention order issued by the Prosecutor’s Office while facing charges for the commission of a new offense. Once the investigation concluded, the Office, acting within its legal authority, decided to modify the precautionary measure of provisional detention.

The Cuban State reiterates its steadfast commitment to the rule of law, the protection of the rights of all citizens, the defense of national sovereignty against defamation campaigns, and the preservation of peace and constitutional order.
