Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida was evacuated this Saturday after an attack on him was recorded minutes before giving a speech in the city of Wakayama, in the west of the country.

According to Japanese media, an unknown person threw a smoke bomb at the prime minister, and afterwards Kishida was removed from the area by the security services of the Saikazaki port of the city of Wakayama. Minutes later, the authorities arrested the person allegedly responsible for the assassination attempt.

The Japanese Police have not offered information about the detainee, while they indicated that the fact did not leave material damage or victims to regret.

Japan tightened security after the assassination of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who was shot during a campaign event in July 2022.
