Ivan Melnikov and Ana María Mari Machado discussed work of bilateral specialized working groups

On May 28, 2024, the First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Ivan Melnikov held a meeting with the Vice-President of the National Assembly of People’s Power of the Republic of Cuba Ana María Mari Machado via videoconference.

The meeting participants summarized the interim results of work of the bilateral specialized working groups created in 2023 following the first meeting of the Commission on Cooperation between the State Duma and the National Assembly of People’s Power, and outlined plans for further development of this format of inter-parliamentary cooperation. It was noted that all meetings in the working group format were of a very specific and constructive nature. The heads of these working groups from both sides also took part in the meeting.

Ivan Melnikov and Ana María Mari Machado commended the current state and prospects of Russian-Cuban multifaceted cooperation and noted the high importance of the trusting, friendly relationship between the leaders of the two countries: President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and President of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

The meeting participants also discussed current issues of parliamentary interaction, paying special attention to the “reconciliation of hours” regarding the implementation of the program of inter-parliamentary cooperation between the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the National Assembly of People’s Power of the Republic of Cuba.
