Italy’s fundraising campaign in support Cuba

The National Association of Friendship between Italy and Cuba (Anaic) launched a new fundraising campaign to support the Caribbean nation, whose eastern part was devastated on October 29 by Hurricane Melissa.
The appeal states that this disastrous weather event caused enormous damage to crops, production facilities, and housing in the eastern part of the country, exacerbating the serious economic difficulties plaguing the Cuban people, primarily due to the criminal blockade imposed by the United States.
The response to this urgent appeal, under the slogan “Let’s Help the Island,” represents “a strong sign of solidarity and support for the Cuban people,” the organizers of this solidarity initiative, which follows a similar campaign launched a few weeks ago to help the nation with its power outages, say.
The aim now is to extend the fundraising effort launched in late September with the “Energy for Life” campaign, with tax-deductible donations accepted in the bank account of Nexus Emilia-Romagna ETS, IBAN: IT58D 05018 02400 000011318730.
“Cuba is suffering the inhumane tightening of the US blockade, and we cannot ignore the suffering of a people who have demonstrated their solidarity and generosity during the pandemic,” states the appeal, referring to the assistance provided by Cuban medical brigades to Italy during the worst moments of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The funds raised will be used to support the operation of schools, hospitals, workplaces, and cultural centers, among other essential activities, as well as to aid the population affected by Hurricane Melissa.
