Ramallah, Jan 5 (Prensa Latina) More than 2,140 Palestinians died as a result of Israeli air strikes against the Gaza Strip from 2000 to 2022, denounced the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights.

The NGO specified in a statement that the Israeli missiles and bombs killed 378 minors and 86 women in the Strip, where more than two million people live, and more than 3,330 homes were damaged as a result of the attacks.

“Israeli drones continue to fly over Gaza Strip, creating a permanent state of tension among the population and brings previous traumatic experiences back to the minds of civilians,” criticized the humanitarian institution.

More than 250 persons lost their lives in an air raid against the Strip in May 2021, and other 49 Palestinians were killed later by Israeli forces in August, last year.

Since the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) seized power there in 2007, Israel has enacted a strict blockade against the territory, despite criticism from the international community for the humanitarian consequences of local inhabitants.

The blockade has devastating effects for the civilian population by limiting the import of essential goods, including construction materials, paralyzing internal Palestinian trade and exports, the Oxfam NGO denounced recently.

According to data from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, the cumulative cost of the blockade and economic restrictions from 2007 to 2018 totaled 16.7 billion dollars, a figure equivalent to six times the Gross Domestic Product of the strip.
