Tehran, Sep 29 (Prensa Latina) Iran on Wednesday stated that beyond its obligations, cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is voluntary, Mehr news agency informed.

The source quoted statements by Iranian Representative to the IAEA Kazem Gharibabadi, who reiterated that expanding inspections at nuclear sites of his country depends on the UN atomic agency's conduct.

If the international agency wants to implement supervision activities, its performance must be responsible and condemn the terrorist attacks against Iranian facilities, Gharibabadi stressed.

The United States and its Western allies aspire that the IAEA maintains control over the Islamic Republic's nuclear sites, he added, for which, he said, they must prevent the Israeli terrorist actions.

In 2015, Tehran signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with the 5+1 group (the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Russia and China plus Germany). The group is now in crisis due to Washington's unilateral withdrawal.

Since April 2021, but now on pause, Iran and the remaining signatories, the 4+1 group, have developed rounds of negotiations to find a solution on how the United States could return to the pact.
