India today expressed deep concern over the recent events in Venezuela and reaffirmed its support for the welfare and security of the people of the South American nation.

In a brief statement, the Foreign Ministry assured it is closely monitoring the evolving situation and called on all parties involved to address issues peacefully through dialogue, ensuring peace and stability in the region.

It also reiterated that the Indian Embassy in Caracas is in contact with members of the diaspora and will continue to provide all possible assistance.

In the early hours of Saturday, the United States bombed Caracas and several cities in Venezuela, causing deaths and injuries among the civilian and military population of the South American country, and kidnapped President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, now reportedly in New York City.

The criminal action by the United States has mobilized widespread condemnation in the international community. In India, political, union, and student organizations took to the streets in protests to demonstrate their solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution and Nicolás Maduro.

They also demanded the immediate release of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores.

In a separate initial advisory, the Indian Foreign Ministry cautioned its citizens against traveling to Venezuela unless necessary and advised the diaspora in the South American country to maintain contact with the diplomatic mission there should they require any type of assistance.
