Brussels, Sep 9 (Prensa Latina) Margarita Robles, a professor at the University of Granada in Spain, warned about security breaches that favor an increase in cyber espionage in the European Union (EU).

In this regard, the cybersecurity expert called for the articulation of a regional policy against external interference.

During a session at the Committee on Foreign Interference and Disinformation in Brussels, Robles stated that the way to dissuade these threats is to apply a 'good legal and sanctioning framework.'

The expert asked to build up trust and enhance transparency among the member States of the regional bloc to deal with that situation.

Professor Robert Dover, from the British University of Hull, warned that on several occasions, these attacks come from what he called 'competitive friends', and stressed that the EU must protect itself by discouraging these practices.

Other speakers advocated for establishing effective complaint mechanisms to face this phenomenon, which leaves citizens unprotected.
