The Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) considers that the US government's policy on the Caribbean island has an imperialist projection, according to a statement released on Wednesday.

“The policy on Cuba by successive US administrations has been unequivocally imperialist,” underlines the text, which rejects the island’s reinsertion in the State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT) list, made unilaterally by Washington.

Entitled ¡Cuba vencerá, Cuba no está sola! (Cuba shall overcome, Cuba is not alone!), the statement reiterates that the ICAP “has condemned for years the implementation of lists and unilateral coercive measures designed by the US Government.”

It also accuses the US administrations of trying to force a social and political change in Cuba, “subduing our people through economic warfare.”

On January 14, we thanked US activists and those from the rest of the world for their constant denunciation to achieve Cuba’s exclusion from the SSOT List. It also points out that the “support from the world solidarity movement was decisive in facing each of the damages caused by this comprehensive and criminal system of sanctions.”

It is not surprising that a few hours after taking office, Donald Trump announced the reestablishment of the measures that his predecessor eliminated a week ago, through a late Executive Order.

For the ICAP, this decision represents the “destruction of the truth for a political vendetta that hides a big business with the millionaire funds designated to profiteers from dozens of organizations in Miami, who profit from anti-Cuban politicking.”

“The discredit of US institutions is total. The media farces condemning Cuba, under any pretext, have been exposed,” the statement asserts.

In the same way that the Cuban people knew how to rise and resist the policy of maximum pressure applied since 2019, they will do so again with the firmness and motivation to defend our independence, the statement noted.

“Cuba’s clean record in the fight against terrorism will prevail as our best weapon of struggle,” the text notes, adding that “millions of voices will rise against abuse and injustice in the world.”

“Above Trump’s arrogance and lies, above his disrespect for the norms and institutions of his own country, Cuba shall overcome!” the statement from ICAP states.
