With a high incidence rate of Covid-19 in the central provinces of Ciego de Ávila and Sancti Spíritus, Cuba today reports 73 new cases of the disease for an accumulated of 5,670 diagnosed people with the disease.

The national director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health, Francisco Durán, explained in a press conference that after an increase in infections in April-May, there was a decrease but in the last two months (August-September) the behavior curve became a plateau that has not just fallen.

He specified that of the 73 new cases, 50 are from Ciego de Ávila, 13 from Sancti Spíritus and nine from Havana, the provinces with the highest reports at the end of this Wednesday.

However, he stressed that the general situation of Covid-19 in the country is improving, in particular due to the scenario that the capital shows in the last 15 days with a trend towards epidemiological control of the coronavirus causing the pandemic, which is it reflects in the reduction of local transmission events, active focus controls and positive cases.

The day before Cuba did not register deaths, which remains at 122, while 29 medical discharges were granted that raise the number of recovered patients to 4,922, while there are 624 active diagnosed, of them 615 with a stable clinical evolution.

The molecular biology laboratories yesterday processed 7,186 PCR tests to detect the presence of SARS-Cov 2 in asymptomatic or not people, so they insist on permanent surveillance and compliance with protective measures because the risk of contagion is still high. .

Durán reported that of the 73 new cases, 72 were contacts of previously confirmed and 52 did not present symptoms at the time of diagnosis.

For epidemiological surveillance, 6,669 people remain admitted in medical centers, of which 1,220 are in the category of suspects, while four children under 20 years of age were detected, three in pediatric ages.

Durán insisted on the complexity of Covid-19 due to its rapid transmission and high risk for all people, hence the repeated call for responsible behavior in compliance with isolation, protection and epidemiological surveillance measures through their participation in the inquiries carried out by health personnel and individuals.
