Havana, Mar 12 (Prensa Latina) The Helms-Burton Act codified and internationalized the US blockade against Cuba 26 years ago, as part of an extraterritorial policy that seeks to stifle Cuba economically.

In an electoral context and given situation causing the blowing up of two planes from the Brothers to the Rescue group, which repeatedly violated Cuban airspace, the Congress approved this project despite its unconstitutionality.

According to experts, the then President Bill Clinton (1993-2001) ratified the blowing-up to win support of the Cuban-American community residing mainly in Florida.
