The First secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel reported Thursday through the social network X (formerly Twitter), that he is suffering from a viral desease that prevents him from traveling to the province of Pinar del Río, recently affected by tropical storm Idalia, which became a hurricane.

He added that he is nevertheless aware of the recovery actions and hopes to be ready very soon to resume work with the same intensity as always.

Cuba's Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz visited the provinces of Pinar del Río, Artemisa and Mayabeque, affected by Idalia's recent battering.

In Pinar del Río, the westernmost province of the country, the tropical organism caused the greatest damage to the electric power grid, communications and agriculture, and more than 1,645 families had to be evacuated.

In Artemisa, the head of government spoke with agricultural producers in Güira de Melena, where damages were minimal and the rains benefited crops.

He checked the construction of several houses that will be delivered soon to people affected by previous meteorological events.

While touring Mayabeque, Marrero Cruz learned about some thirty measures adopted in Batabanó and San Nicolás, the municipalities most affected by Idalia.

As of 2:00 p.m. (2:00 p.m.) this Thursday, the National Civil Defense General Staff decided to establish normality in these provinces and in the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud.

The decision was made taking into account that the territories that are in the Recovery Phase have reestablished vital systems and no significant damages have been reported.
