London, Jan 29 (Prensa Latina) A fourth Covid-19 vaccine from US laboratory Novavax could be approved for use in the United Kingdom, Minister Lucy Frazer told Sky News on Friday.

The decision is now assessed by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), which has already authorized Pfizer/BioNTech, AstraZeneca/Oxford and Moderna's vaccines, Frazer said.

I am convinced that MHRA is doing everything possible to move to the next phase, but it is important they do everything necessary to verify that the vaccine is safe, the British government's minister said.

Novavax announced on Thursday that its vaccine candidate to fight the coronavirus disease achieved an 89% efficacy during its clinical trials conducted in the United Kingdom.

The United Kingdom became the first country globally to formally approve the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine, and allow masse inoculations in December. A month later, the AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine was added to the vaccination campaign, while Moderna vaccines are expected to arrive in this country for spring.

So far, almost more than 7.4 million British citizens, among them people aged 70 years and older, healthcare and nursing home workers and chronic patients, have already received at least a first dose of either of the two vaccines.
