Former President Mujica criticizes Uruguay's affinity with US
During an interview with the Subrayado (Underlined) TV program, Mujica directly blamed President Luis Lacalle Pou of that bias, and described him as a 'resentful' person who gets angry when criticized.
The veteran senator also mentioned as an adverse sign in Uruguayan diplomacy the frequent contacts with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, through telephone calls to the Uruguayan president and more recently by welcoming Foreign Minister Francisco Bustillo.
Days before visiting Washington, where he met with the secretary general of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, Bustillo dismissed an official who had voted in favor of a United Nations Resolution condemning the human rights violations committed by Israel against Palestinian children and women.
