Any attack by Washington against Iran would trigger an Iranian military response against Israel and U.S. regional bases, declared Mohammad Qalibaf, the spokesman for the Persian nation's parliament.

"Know that, in the event of an attack on Iran, both the occupied territories and all American military bases and ships in the region will be legitimate targets for us," he warned.

Furthermore, Qalibaf warned that Tehran would not limit itself to a passive defensive position.

"With these frank confessions of their intention to carry out military aggression against Iran, we do not consider that our defense should be limited to reacting only after an attack," he stated, adding that, based on objective indicators, his country would take "decisive measures."

The final warning was especially forceful and was directed at both Washington and its regional allies. "It was necessary to tell you and all your allies in the region not to make any mistake or miscalculate, because regret will be of no use," he cautioned. The message concluded with the slogan: "Death to America!"

President Donald Trump reiterated this Saturday his support for Iranian protesters and his threat to intervene in case of lethal repression amid the anti-government protests that have been taking place in the country since late December.

His statement coincides with a Wall Street Journal report revealing preliminary discussions within his Administration about a possible attack on Iran, should Trump decide to materialize his warnings.

Tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to rise. Previously, Trump had alerted Iranian authorities: "They better not start shooting, because we will also start shooting."

Meanwhile, outlets like the Jerusalem Post indicated that the United States is evaluating options to support the protests, and Israel is analyzing whether the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro could set a precedent applicable to Iran.

Tehran, for its part, accuses Washington and Tel Aviv of instrumentalizing the protests in the context of a "soft war" and sternly warns them not to interfere in its internal affairs.
