Zurich, Switzerland, Aug 18 (Prensa Latina) The International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) today called on the African Football Confederation ( AFC ) and the World Health Organization ( WHO ) to join forces against domestic violence.

'I am pleased to be able to launch today, together with our partners from the African Union, the WHO and the AFC, this campaign on a subject as important as domestic violence, which has been exacerbated by the conditions resulting from the confinement and restrictions on movement on the Covid-19,' said Gianni Infantino, FIFA's head of delegation.

We must take advantage of the immense popularity of football in Africa, he added, to raise awareness of this social problem with a very clear message: violence has no place either in our homes or in football.

In this respect, Ahmad Ahmad, President of AFC, said: 'Both at home and on the pitch, everyone deserves respect and security. We must condemn domestic, physical and psychological violence, especially against women and children.

The memorandum of understanding between the African Union, FIFA and AFC, signed in February 2019, governs joint campaigns on issues of common concern and the promotion of gender equality, which is considered a key principle.
