Failure causes power service disruption from Matanzas to Guantanamo Bay

Unión Eléctrica reported an affectation from the province of Matanzas to Guantánamo and that so far, the causes are unknown.

It will be informed promptly once the fault is clarified, the company said on its Telegram channel.

This Saturday, several municipalities in Havana were affected by Automatic Frequency Discharge.

A frequency trip or Automatic Frequency Discharge is a protection of the electrical system when the frequency reaches minimum permissible values that endanger the stability of the entire system as a whole and causes an automatic disconnection of some circuits until it recovers its nominal value at 60 Hz or cycles per second.

This occurs when a generating plant with a certain power output suddenly or unexpectedly goes out and the system as a whole need to release that load until the previously lost generation power can be recovered or the service is affected by generation deficit (blackouts), explained the Empresa Eléctrica de La Habana in Telegram.
