Participants in the leading African event on digital identity, "ID4Africa 2025," which concludes on Friday, affirmed that Ethiopia is an example for the continent by ensuring an inclusive service and accessibility.
Kalkidan Arega, Chief Executive Officer of Toppan Security Ethiopia, a joint venture between Ethiopian Investment Holding and Japan’s Toppan, explained that the company was set up to fill the need for secure printing.
Arega highlighted the ongoing construction of a huge printing plant in Addis Ababa to make strategic and secure printing accessible to other countries.
When the plant is fully operational, it will produce more than 5.6 million passports annually, enabling it to supply the product abroad.
She pointed out that printing those identity documents in national territory will save foreign currency, and also provide security and accessibility for all citizens.
Herbert Ngondo, sales manager at China’s EMPTECH, affirmed that the company offers reliable identity verification and security solutions. Ngondo praised Ethiopia’s role in digital transformation and revealed interest in expanding its services across the country.
The ID4Africa 2025 Conference ran from May 20 to 23 under the theme “Digital Identity at Scale: Prioritizing Use, Accelerating Impact.”
It brings together more than 2,000 delegates from over 95 countries.
