The Dominican Campaign of Solidarity with Cuba extended a warm welcome today to the Seventh Meeting of Cubans Residing in Latin America and the Caribbean, currently underway in the Dominican Republic with the participation of over one hundred delegates.
Roberto Payano, national coordinator of the Campaign, highlighted the historic ties between the two nations and expressed gratitude for Cuba’s unwavering solidarity with the world—particularly with the Dominican Republic. He noted that the Campaign was founded on this very date in tribute to the heroes who landed on June 14, 1959, in Constanza, Maimón, and Estero Hondo to support the Dominican people's fight against the dictatorship of Rafael Leónidas Trujillo—among them, several Cubans.
On the occasion, Payano read a letter addressed to Army General Raúl Castro in honor of his 94th birthday.
In the letter, the Coordination Team of the Friends of Cuba told Raúl, “Like you, many men across the Americas and the world, inspired by your example, continue with our foot in the stirrup, wishing you long life and good health, alongside the revolutionary and united Cuban people.”
The letter was handed to Ana Teresita González, Director General of Consular Affairs and Cubans Residing Abroad, who is leading the Cuban Foreign Ministry’s delegation at the event.
González thanked the participants on behalf of General Castro and assured them that he is well and actively working for the country’s welfare.
This afternoon, the regional meeting in the Dominican Republic continues with discussions on several topics, including the impact of the U.S. blockade on Cuba’s trade relations, families, and Cubans living abroad.
The event is set to conclude tomorrow with a march against the blockade, joined by solidarity activists.
