Disaster Risk Reduction Exercise Kicks off In Santiago de Cuba

Santiago de Cuba, May 16 (ACN) As a prolog of the Meteoro 2022 National Exercise to take place May 21 and 22, disaster risk reduction drills opened in this eastern Cuban province, particularly by local government entities and agencies.

National Defense chief in Santiago, Lieutenant Colonel Gustavo Alvarez said that actions will run till May 20 in order to increase local resilience against high-intensity quake. The drill also focuses on the preparedness to face strong winds, intense rains, drought and sanitary disasters like COVID-19, in an effort to lower vulnerability levels at communities and economic facilities.

The actions will join the national Meteoro 2022, a national disaster risk reduction exercise, which will be joined by the population and rescue forces in all nine municipalities of the eastern Cuban province.
