Díaz-Canel Visits the Municipality of Cauto Cristo in Granma

Miguel Díaz-Canel, President of the National Defense Council, arrived today in the municipality of Cauto Cristo, in the eastern province of Granma, to review the recovery efforts for the damages caused by Hurricane Melissa.
The tour also aims to engage with the people, as highlighted on the social media platform X by Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), who is accompanying the head of state.
In Cauto Cristo, the damages are substantial, commented the party leader in his message, noting that many people there remain evacuated.
The Presidency specified on X that out of a total of 20,570 inhabitants in the municipality, 14,432 had to be evacuated.
It reported that in the community of El Recreo, the lives of 234 inhabitants have been upended by rising waters, a situation that, according to the residents themselves, is unprecedented.
During the dialogue with the residents, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the PCC inquired about the most urgent needs of the community, asked about the number of damaged homes that have not yet been accessible, and was briefed on the care being provided to the evacuees.
