Havana, April 8 (RHC)-- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, described as encouraging the debate that was generated in the next-to-last Review Assembly of the Provincial Party, in the western province of Mayabeque.

"It has been an encouraging debate, without pessimism, with awareness of the moment we are living," said Díaz-Canel, who attended the meeting accompanied by Rebel Army Commander José Ramón Machado Ventura.

Díaz-Canel pointed out that among the Mayabequenses militants, clarity of the agreements approved at the 8th PCC Congress is appreciated and highlighted the issues brought to the debate, which he considered critical, honest and sincere.

"It has been worthwhile to participate in all this stocktaking process of provincial assemblies that will conclude Saturday in Havana," said the first secretary of the Central Committee of the PCC.

The economy and ideological challenges were the focus of this afternoon's meeting, held at the Agrarian University of Havana theater, which was attended by 150 delegates representing the militancy of the territory.

The Assembly in Mayabeque elected its Provincial Committee and its Executive Bureau. Yuniasky Crespo Vaquero was elected as First Secretary.
President Diaz Canel recognized the work of outgoing leader Yanina de la Nuez.
