Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel denounced the U.S. "criminal attack" on Venezuela, labeling such aggressions as "state terrorism." This statement was a reaction to bombings recorded in the early hours of Saturday in Caracas.

In a post on his social media, the Cuban leader not only condemned Washington's actions but also demanded a response from the international community to these aggressions. "Cuba denounces and demands an urgent reaction from the international community against the criminal U.S. attack on Venezuela," he stated.

"Our zone of peace is being brutally assaulted. State terrorism against the brave Venezuelan people and against our America," he added. "Homeland or death! We will prevail!" concluded Díaz-Canel's message.

Aggression Against Venezuela

Loud explosions reverberated through Caracas in the early hours of Saturday. According to witnesses, detonations were recorded at the Fuerte Tiuna military complex and the La Carlota air base, accompanied by helicopter overflights.

The Venezuelan government issued a statement following the first U.S. airstrike against Caracas "and the states of Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira," calling it a "most serious military aggression." "This act constitutes a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter, especially its Articles 1 and 2, which enshrine respect for sovereignty, the juridical equality of States, and the prohibition of the use of force. Such aggression threatens international peace and stability, specifically in Latin America and the Caribbean, and gravely endangers the lives of millions of people," an official communiqué states.

In the statement, Caracas warned that the objective of the attacks "is none other than to seize Venezuela's strategic resources, particularly its oil and minerals, attempting to forcibly break the nation's political independence."

Escalation of Aggressions

The airstrike occurs amid an escalation of aggressions that began last August, with the unusual deployment of a military operation in the Caribbean, off the coast of the South American country. This has led to bombings against small vessels accused without evidence of drug trafficking, threats of incursion against Caracas, and the seizure of oil tankers, acts labeled as "theft" and "piracy" by the Venezuelan government.

In recent weeks, the White House's discourse has shifted. What was initially presented as a strategy against drug trafficking has turned towards an explicit desire to appropriate the South American country's oil, which, in the opinion of U.S. President Donald Trump, has been "stolen" by Venezuela.
