Havana, Dec 15 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said on Thursday that denying underwater cable connection to the Internet contradicts the position that the US Government declared in May 2022.

On Twitter, the foreign minister stated that establishing a connection between Florida and Cuba would be a positive step for both countries and expand Cubans’ access to the Internet.

On December 1, the Department of Justice recommended the Federal Communications Commission deny a permit to Cuba to connect to the submarine cable that links the Caribbean with the continent, under the argument of an alleged danger to US security.

Such an attitude contradicts statements by US President Joe Biden, who promised to expand Cuba’s possibilities of access to the Internet.

Despite this, Cuba does not spare efforts to facilitate the service to the population, Communications Minister Mayra Arevich said during the ordinary session of the National People’s Power Assembly (Parliament), which was held recently.
