A delegation of the Finlay Vaccine Institute (IFV) of Cuba, headed by its general director, Dr. Vicente Vérez, left today for France satisfied with the results of a one-week stay in Italy.

IFV Research Director Dr. Dagmar García, a member of the delegation, described the visit to Prensa Latina as satisfactory. The delegation also included Dr. Luis Herrera, scientific advisor to the president of BioCubaFarma and founder of the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology.

We have discussed and presented the scientific results of the development of the Soberana 02 vaccine in children and appreciated the recognition of those results by the different health and scientific institutions we met with, she said.

Among these, she mentioned the Italian Drug Agency, a national regulatory entity, in which, she said, "we managed to better understand the regulatory mechanisms" for a vaccine developed in Cuba to enter the world regulated by the European Medicines Agency, "which are really very complex processes."

We are leaving, she said, with the mission to return, once we have a better understanding of everything we have to do, we will return to Italy with new work proposals.

During its stay in this European nation, the IFV delegation fulfilled commitments in the cities of Turin, Rome and Naples, including the presentation of the good results obtained by the Soberana Plus Turin clinical trial, developed in conjunction with the Amedeo di Savoia hospital in that city.

Among other activities carried out in this capital, Vicente Vérez awarded Fabrizio Chiodo, a young scientist who collaborates with the IFV, the Carlos J. Finlay Order, the highest recognition granted by Cuba to personalities and institutions in the scientific field.
